Kilcloon Community Centre is delighted to confirm that the tender process to build the Community Centre commenced in late August. This is a two phase process the first of which involves the selection of suitable building contractors. The closing date for expressions of interest for this phase of the tender was 16 September and we are pleased with the number of responses received. The shortlisting evaluation is currently underway.
The next stage will be to issue the detailed design drawings to the selected contractors. We expect to make significant progress over the next few months in this regard and we will issue a further update when stage 2 of the tender process commences. The Kilcloon Community Centre Committee is delighted to be able to share the news that our project has been successful in its application to the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Centres Investment Fund. Today (Saturday, 20th April), Minister Heather Humpries announced that €1,915,000 has been granted to the Kilcloon Community Centre project.
The committee is deeply grateful to all those who have supported our application to the Fund, to Cllr Maria Murphy and in particular to the late Cllr Damien O’Reilly, who was always a tireless supporter of our project. This is wonderful news for the community of Kilcloon. After so many years of working towards our goal, this grant will enable the building programme for the Community Centre. Further updates will follow when we receive formal notification of the grant. You can view the full text of the minister’s announcement here. Kilcloon Community Centre Committee is delighted to announce the opening of the Community Centre children's playground. The playground is part of the overall Community Centre development on the community site at Ballynare cross. Children and parents are invited to attend the opening on Monday, 18th March 2024 at 2pm. The playground will be a great facility for all the locality. It was designed and laid out for the under 12 age group, and with a wide array of multiplay units. The playground is accessible for all abilities, catering for disabilities, is sensory friendly and autism friendly and provides an enclosed safe place for children to play. The project received the "Sustainable Communities and Placemaking" Award at the Irish Planning Institute Planning Awards 2023 and we received grant funding under the "Town and Village Renewal Scheme". Our thanks to Meath County Council who grant aided the venture, along with the hardworking playground committee and all involved in delivering this lovely playground for our community. A meeting will be held on Monday 26th February at 8.30pm in the Parish Centre in Kilcloon (to the rear of the Church of St Oliver Plunkett) to discuss arrangements for the opening and management of the playground.
All those interested in this significant development, which will be of enormous benefit to our community, are invited to attend. We are pleased to advise that work on the playground is nearing completion. Official
handover is expected to happen in the next two weeks or so. We are currently trying to finalise insurance arrangements and obviously we cannot open until we have adequate insurance in place. We are also seeking volunteers to help with managing the facility. Regular inspections will have to be carried out to ensure the area is kept safe. If you can give some time to help please get in touch by email: [email protected] Kilcloon Community Centre is delighted to announce that, following the receipt of grant funding from Meath County Council, construction of the community playground on the site of the Community Centre is expected to get underway in early December 2023.

The KCC Committee is delighted to announce that Meath County Council was awarded first prize in the Sustainable Communities and Placemaking category at the Irish Planning Institute gala national awards ceremony at Clontarf Castle in recent weeks for our project.
Our project was selected ahead of four other projects in the category by the judging panel which included IPI president Mary Mac Mahon, Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland president Charlotte Sheridan, Henk van der Kamp, Secretary General of the ECTP-CEU, the umbrella organisation for spatial planning institutes in Europe, Terry Prendergast, former board member of An Bord Pleanála and John O’Hara former Dublin City Council Planning Officer. Our now award-winning project involves the provision of a Community Centre, playground and village square alongside thirteen homes for local people. This development will provide much needed facilities for the growing population in the area. We are delighted that our project has been recognised by the IPI and we are grateful to Meath County Council for putting our project forward for the award, and for their support in moving the development forward over a number of years. We also thank McKevitt King, our architects, Ger Fahy Planning and the design team for the design solution proposed. Our project is the fruit of the labour of many committee members and volunteers over the years, and we are delighted that their efforts have been recognised with this prestigious award. Traffic restrictions / Water disruption at ballynare cross - UIsce Éireann tie-ins for kcc4/18/2023
Mains Water and sewer tie-in connections will be made during the week of the 17th April 2023 for the Community Centre development project at Ballynare Cross.
As the tie-in points are close to the centre of the cross roads, there will be traffic restrictions with traffic lights setup. The work is being done by a contractor on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is targeted to be complete by Friday 21st April 2023. The work was originally planned for Easter week to minimise disruption to school related traffic, but was moved due to contractor resource constraints. Meath County Council, on behalf of Uisce Éireann, have advised of water disruption on Thursday, 20th April 2023 from 10.00am to 3.00pm for customers in Killeany, Kilgraigue and Harristown. Thank you for your continued support to the Community Centre Project As Phase 1 of the Kilcloon Community Centre nears completion, KCC is delighted to announce that Kilcloon has been awarded €100,000 of grant funding from Meath County Council and the Department of Rural and Community Development. The announcement was made today by Minister Heather Humphreys.
This grant is the first of its kind to be awarded to Kilcloon. KCC applied for funding to support the development of the Village Square at Kilcloon Community Centre, including the construction of a recreational space and landscaping. The Village Square and its amenities will be fully inclusive, accessible for all, and cater for all ages in our community. It will provide for a much needed amenity and multi-purpose space for a wide range of users of all ages with active and passive spaces for socialising, exercising and meeting. We previously communicated that Tenders for Phase 1 of the Kilcloon Community Centre Project had been issued to prospective bidders in our May ’21 Project Update.
Phase 1 will enable the development of the Community Field at Ballynare Cross for the Community Centre and housing. The work consists of the internal road, footpaths and lighting and underground services including sewer, mains water, surface water drainage, power and broadband. During May and June, tenders were received, evaluated and scored. We are pleased to announce that the Contract for Phase 1 Construction has now been awarded. The appointed contractor is Rossmore Civils Ltd. Rossmore Civils specialise in Building and Civils infrastructure works and are well positioned to deliver Phase 1 of the project in a timely and quality focussed way. The commencement of the Phase 1 work on the site is a significant and long-awaited milestone and achievement. Completion of Phase 1 will enable the construction of the Community Centre and also the housing on the site. Construction activity will start on site in early August. The initial work will involve making the new entrance to the site close to Ballynare Cross on the road to Kilcloon and Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa. The timing of the works is optimum, as the bulk of the work will be complete during the school holidays. We are currently aligning with the contractor on the detailed program of the work, and this will include topics such as working hours, site security and access control, and traffic management and truck movement to and from the site. Our next update will provide a summary of the Phase 1 works program and timelines. The sale of sites to fund the project continues. Of the 8 sites in the 1st phase, 2 now have full planning permission, 3 have submitted for full planning and there are booking deposits on the remaining 3. We are now opening the 2nd phase on the 5 remaining sites for sale. For information on sites for sale, please contact Leinster Property. |
