Tuesday, 2nd June marked a hugely significant milestone in the journey towards a new Community Centre as we officially turned the sod on this exciting project.
This achievement is the result of years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work by our long-serving committee, whose commitment to the vision of a community centre for Kilcloon has brought us to this moment. We extend our sincere thanks to every committee member, past and present, who has played a role in getting the project to this stage.
We were delighted to be joined for the occasion by Councillors Caroline O'Reilly and Maria Murphy, along with Meath Helen McEntee, Gillian Toole and Thomas Byrne and the Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary. Their support and presence on the day were greatly appreciated as we celebrated the beginning of construction.
The turning of the sod represents far more than the start of building works—it marks the beginning of a new chapter for Kilcloon. The community centre will provide a welcoming space for people of all ages, supporting community activities, events, recreation, and connection for generations to come.

With construction work on the Community Centre now underway, members of the committee were able to meet with the construction team on site on Thursday morning (26th March).
There was a real sense of pride as this long-awaited project continues to take shape. After years of planning, dedication, and overcoming obstacles, it’s incredible to see the vision becoming a reality.
This centre has been a shared goal for so long, and now the journey from plans to bricks and mortar is well underway. We’re so excited to watch it grow in the months ahead as we move ever closer to having a fantastic space for the entire community.

We are delighted to be able to announce that construction work on Kilcloon Community Centre will commence on Monday, 23rd March 2026. Construction is expected to last approximately 12 months.

As we celebrate this important milestone for the project, we ask that all members of the community be mindful of the additional construction traffic in the area over the coming months, giving particular consideration to children and parents walking to and from school and the playground. 

The contractor has been made aware of these important safety concerns and we must all play our part in public safety on roads and footbaths. 

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation as our community moves ever closer to the completion of the project.

Kilcloon Community Centre Committee are pleased to announce that the construction phase for our new Community Centre will commence shortly.
​Following the completion of the procurement process the successful contractor has been selected and final discussions are taking place to arrange their appointment. We expect this to be finalised in the next few weeks and a commencement date agreed.

We are holding a public meeting on Thursday 26 February at 8pm in the Parish Centre to give an update. All are welcome.

Kilcloon Community Centre is delighted to be able to share that, following confirmation of approval of a grant from the Department of Rural and Community Development, funding is now in place which will allow construction of the Community Centre to commence in the near future. 
This is a hugely important milestone for our community and we can't wait to see the project move from plans to reality. 
We will continue to update the community as final details are confirmed.

Progress continues towards appointing a contractor for the Community Centre. Tenders have been published and responses are expected in the coming weeks. We hope to be able to provide a further update on progress over the coming month or so.

Kilcloon Community Centre is delighted to confirm that the tender process to build the Community Centre commenced in late August. This is a two phase process the first of which involves the selection of suitable building contractors. The closing date for expressions of interest for this phase of the tender was 16 September and we are pleased with the number of responses received. The shortlisting evaluation is currently underway.  

The next stage will be to issue the detailed design drawings to the selected contractors. We expect to make significant progress over the next few months in this regard and we will issue a further update when stage 2  of the tender process commences.

The Kilcloon Community Centre Committee is delighted to be able to share the news that our project has been successful in its application to the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Centres Investment Fund. Today (Saturday, 20th April), Minister Heather Humpries announced that €1,915,000 has been granted to the Kilcloon Community Centre project.

The committee is deeply grateful to all those who have supported our application to the Fund, to Cllr Maria Murphy and in particular to the late Cllr Damien O’Reilly, who was always a tireless supporter of our project.

This is wonderful news for the community of Kilcloon. After so many years of working towards our goal, this grant will enable the building programme for the Community Centre.

Kilcloon Community Centre Committee is delighted to announce the opening of the Community Centre children's playground. The playground is part of the overall Community Centre development on the community site at Ballynare cross. 

Children and parents are invited to attend the opening on Monday, 18th March 2024 at 2pm. 

​The playground will be a great facility for all the locality. It was designed and laid out for the under 12 age group, and with a wide array of multiplay units. The playground is accessible for all abilities, catering for disabilities, is sensory friendly and autism friendly and provides an enclosed safe place for children to play. 
The project received the "Sustainable Communities and Placemaking" Award at the Irish Planning Institute Planning Awards 2023 and we received grant funding under the "Town and Village Renewal Scheme". Our thanks to Meath County Council who grant aided the venture, along with the hardworking playground committee and all involved in delivering this lovely playground for our community.

A meeting will be held on Monday 26th February at 8.30pm in the Parish Centre in Kilcloon (to the rear of the Church of St Oliver Plunkett) to discuss arrangements for the opening and management of the playground.
